What is the meaning of Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate Do, Jundokan Sohonbu?
- Okinawan:
Okinawa is the last southern island in the Japan island chain and is the birthplace of Karate Do.
- Goju:
means "Hard/Soft" and refers to the principle of "Yin/Yang". "Ying/Yang" is a concept of opposites and the balance between them.
- Karate:
means "Empty Hands" and refers to Karate as form of unarmed combat.
- Do:
means "Way" and refers to the fact that Karate is a lifelong study and a way of life.
- Jundokan:
means "Building following the Way".
- Sohonbu:
this refers to our headquarters in Naha, Okinawa, Japan.
